MidBritons regularly go to the cinema, theatre and music gigs. Their high interest in these areas extends in to the home and is supplemented with purchases either online or in the shops.

MidBritons entertainment activity over the last 6 month:

  • 50% visited the cinema
  • 45% visited the theatre
  • 43% visited a museum or exhibition
  • 35% visited a live music concert or gig
  • 25% visited an art gallery
  • They are open to both planning in advance or deciding what to do last minute. Reviews from other people is a major influencing factor in their decision-making process.
  • A third of MidBritains have been to London and gone to a London activity or attraction such as a musical or museum in the last 6 months, travelling from all over the country.

Film and cinema

MidBritons are keen films watchers with 8 in 10 watching a film or DVD at home at least once a month

  • 46% buy online, whilst 37% prefer to buy in store
  • Half have been to the cinema in the last 6 months, with 2 in 10 going at least once a month
  • Their favourite types of films are action, comedy and thriller
  • In the last 6 months, they have spent an average of £42 on cinema tickets
  • They are willing to travel up to 36 minutes to get to the cinema
  • The most popular way of buying tickets is still to turn up and buy tickets at the venue whilst 28% of MidBritons prefer to book online

Music

The majority of MidBritons listen to music at home. Their tastes vary from pop and rock to classical music

  • 52% of MidBritons own an iPod and 14% of them download and purchase their tunes online
  • However, 8 in 10 MidBritons still prefer to own CDs. 57% of them buy online whilst 51% prefer to buy in store
  • 4 in 10 MidBritons have been to a gig in the last 6 months
  • Some of their favourite artists or bands to watch live are as Elton John, Neil Diamond, Rolling Stones, Queen and Robbie Williams
  • On average they are willing to travel up to 1 ½ hours to get to a gig.
  • A third would travel as far as they need to if it was for an artist that they really wanted to see.
  • Most MidBritons visit with their partners, however, 4 in 10 also go with their friends
  • In the last 6 months MidBritons have spent an average of £124 on gig or concert tickets
  • The majority buy their tickets online tend to be bought online, in particular with third party suppliers

Theatre

MidBritons are keen theatre goers with 4 in 10 having been to the theatre, ballet or opera in the last 6 months

  • Musicals, West End shows and dramas are their favourites
  • The average distance they travel is up to an hour and 20 minutes
  • In the last 6 months, MidBritons have spent an average of £106 on theatre tickets
  • MidBritons book their tickets online or over the phone as well as at the venue
